First, Saul is waiting for Samuel to show up to bless a battle. When Samuel is late, Saul goes ahead and offers a sacrifice. What was so wrong with that. He wanted God's blessing on the battle and it looked like Samuel wasn't going to show. Honestly, I probably would have done the same thingKevinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13553005723337041687noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5601279.post-68313281504237018552007-09-03T21:29:00.000-05:002007-09-03T21:45:11.393-05:00FailingSo last week I go out to the lake to do some wakeboarding with my wife and friends. If you read this or know me at all then you know that this is usually the highlight of my week. The afternoon started out well I got up and even rode switch (opposite foot forward) for a while. I got back in the boat feeling good about the progress I have made over the past three years. We had an awesome time in Seattle. I was again reminded that God is among the poor and in the margins. Seattle is a beautiful town. I am so glad I got to see the ocean (man how I have missed it). All this week I haven't had a chance to think through what God is doing in my life. Great book by the way! He makes a point that the first and last things Jesus says to Peter is, "Follow Me". In seminary we learn that there is emphasis placed on Primacy (what happens or is said first), recency (what happens or is said last), and repetition. It is amazing that Christ's first and last words are the same. Well, a friend of mine gave me a copy of "Augustine's Confessions". I didn't know what to think. I am only a few chapters into it so here are my impressions. First of all, I had this vague notion of Augustine being the Father of the concept of original sin. I am wary of any book that has an endorsement by McLaren comparing the author to Donald Miller. The premise of the book is that the author has encountered God more through the lives of nameless people instead of the movers and shakers of the Christian world. One such person is a former child sex slave. In chapter 1 Paul says that he doesn't care when people preach the Gospel out of impure motives. Paul simply rejoices in the fact that Christ was proclaimed. I got to be honest. I find this beyond me. Or to quote my friend Shane, "I'm not there yet." I wish they would have said that people will be lame and totally judgmental. I will just post the same blog posts on Blogger, Myspace and Facebook, so here's for Josh, Shane and SteveStranger than FictionWe saw this movie on Saturday night and many thoughts have been ruminating in my brain about the flick. My friend Preston told me after he had seen the film that it was his new favorite, surpassing Shawshank. This is a big deal for Preston. In that time I have posted fairly regularly. I have seen friends' blogs come and go. Lately, I haven't had much to say. Maybe I have been busy. Maybe my regular teaching in our ministry has left me bereft of anything worth saying. I don't know. We had an awesome time. We saw Graceland (including Elvis' jumpsuits, plane and raquetball court). We rocked out at the Rock N Soul museum. He was the high school pastor at Christ Chapel Bible Church. I didn't know him well, but knew of his love for Christ and for his students. I hadn't read the book since I too the Old Testament Class in seminary. I fell in love with this book for the first time. Some people read the book of laws and their eyes glaze over. It was pretty fun to get out of the office and doing some zany creative things again. As an intern, I used to do a lot of cool video stuff. Now, more time is spent doing administration and planning. What do I do with that? The rest of the country recognizes that Martin Luther King jr. did many great things for the country. Yet, the Christian school can't find it in its heart to take the day off in remembrance of a fallen hero.
